Here we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions asked by you and many of our past clients before and during a build project.
You will need detailed drawings and planning permission before you can start your build and this is where our design service comes in useful. Our Team of Architects will work with you to develop your design and then we will take you through planning via your local council. Our drawings include enough detail to satisfy Building Control, and if they have any questions throughout the build we will support you and answer any queries (even if you don’t choose to build with us).
On average, building extensions in South West London can take 15 weeks to complete but this depends on a number of factors, the main one being the size of the building as well as the specification of the project – sometimes a big build can take longer. If you take a look at some of our completed work on the projects section of our site. You will see builds in Fulham and Balham. These specific projects have been of a fair size, including kitchen, diners, ensuite bathrooms and even under floor heating. Whilst these projects took a few short months to complete, it cannot be completely said how long your extension will take. Our project manager will oversee the build every step of the way so if any changes in deadline occur, you will be informed straight away.
The Party Wall Act is a piece of legislation that helps to ensure one’s building does not adversely affect a neighbour’s property. If you are undertaking a home extension, you might be required to serve a notice to your neighbour(s) before you can carry out the Build.
When you start the building process, you will need to assign a Building Control Officer to oversee your project. They are there to ensure the project is being carried out safely and to an acceptable standard. If your Building Control Officer has any concerns throughout the build, our design team will be on hand to rectify them and answer further questions.
A number of our clients choose to vacate their property during the works, however it’s more than possible to continue to dwell in. If you want to do that, we can even create a temporary kitchen until your new kitchen extension is ready.
One point to bear in mind is that if your property doesn’t have rear access, then we’ll have to bring everything through the house. If that’s the case, we will always fully protect the hallway and any floor surfaces.
Definitely! We always do encourage all of our prospective clients, design and build, to see our completed projects up close. This a great way to see our fantastic quality of workmanship, and it will also give you tons of design inspiration and help you visualise layout options. Members from our Design and Build Teams will be on hand during the tour to answer any questions.
If you choose to build with us, our Projects team will take you through the steps you will take when it comes to betting the plans past Building Control. We can sort everything out for you, or you can do it yourself should you wish.
All of our Extensions are backed by our specialist 10 year guarantee on all structural work.
